The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, plans Monday to make a significant impulse to address the camps of homeless.
The governor’s office is framing the management as a “state financing announcement” on the problems of mental and homeless health of California.
As detailed by the Governor’s office, Newsom will launch a model ordinance that cities can use as basic for their own local ordinances against homeless camps.
“There is nothing compassionate to let people die in the streets,” said Newsom in a statement before Monday’s announcement.
Many cities in California have already been implementing more rigid policies against camps for homeless since The ruling of the Supreme Court in favor or anti -pampism ordinances.
Newsom cited that ruling from the Supreme Court, along with an executive order of 2024 from his office, as part of his call to cities to act.
“The time for inaction is over. There are no more apologies,” said Newsom.
The effort is also supported for $ 3.3 billion in new funds from Proposition 1, according to the Governor’s Office.
The Newsom approach on the issue of homeless people, since it approaches at the end of their second and final mandate in the California Government’s office already measure that speculation develops on their political future.
Monday’s press conference will be virtual. You are scheduled to start at 1 PM, see the address in CBS News Sacramento.
