NJ Transit Rail engineers are ready to attack if an agreement cannot be reached before the midnight deadline.
One last effort is underway to avoid the strike, which is expected to affect more than 300,000 travelers as early as Friday morning.
If the strike occurs, it will begin at 12:01 am on Friday. Those who work will end their turn and leave work.
Where things are with a possible NJ Transit strike
NJ Transit and Brother Hood of Engineers of Locomotive and Trainmen (Blet), which repress some 460 members, returned to the table at 9 am on Thursday and the conversations were still on Thursday night.
The union has been In disagreement with the salary increases of NJ transit per njSaying that they have not had an increase in five years. NJ Transit has said that the last agreement that left the Union was $ 49.82 per hour, which is 10 cents less than what Lirr engineers do.
The union says that these numbers are misleading because Lirr engineers are working without a contract.
The CEO of NJ Transit, Kris Kolluri, said the conversations have been constructive and that they are a deal.
“I think anyone wants a strike. My principle is never changing, what I want to give them a fair salary, but I also have to make sure it is reasonable from the point of view of costs to the tariff payers and the New Jersey taspayers,” he said.
“Every time we are sitting and speaking, there is the possibility that we can reach a resolution,” said Blet President Tom Haas.
The union is already planning picket lines on Friday morning at the NJ Transit headquarters in Newark, Penn Station in Manhattan, and at the train station near the casinos in Atlantic City.
What NJ Transit Riders need to know for tomorrow’s trip

Meanwhile, nj transit has a contingency plan That would come into force on Monday, but I would say that it will only accommodate 20% of daily cyclists. The agency is asking people who work from home, if possible.
The content plan includes railway tickets in honor of the cross by buses, light rail lines and the MTA for service to the west of Hudson. It also includes adding four more parks and walks in Secaucus, Hamilton, at the Woodbridge Center Mall and the PNC Arts Center.
Other available options include Path or Amtrak Trains, as well as private property of companies, such as Yankee, which can be reserved through an application called Boxcar. Click here For more details.
Travelers who talked to CBS New York said they don’t want a strike, but that they support the Union.
“Pay people what they deserve, they know what I am saying? This work is not easy,” said Newark resident, Messiah Ford.
“I would feel more better if workers are paid here for a good salary so that they are here, they are focused and know what they do is some security,” said Burns, a resident of Emerson.
