That natural ability was evident from an early age.
Obinna-Alo had always seemed anecdotally fast when she appeared racing neighbors on the street in Middlesbrough.
And her father received a call from the principal of her elementary school encouraging him to enroll his daughter in an athletics club to take advantage of this talent.
But it was partnering with Kilty, 4x100m relay medalist at the Olympics, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games and world indoor 60m+ champion, that began to unlock that potential.
As befits a Year 11 pupil, the sprinter, who now lives in Houghton-le-Spring and races for Gateshead Harriers, remains a little bewildered by her achievements.
“I didn’t realize it was that special,” he said of setting the record. “I thought it was like any other race.
“When I saw the time and the result, I really couldn’t believe it at the time. It was shocking.”
