Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson has been arrested for “dangerous” speeding, according to jail records.
Richardson was booked into the Orange County Jail in Florida at 7:39 p.m. local time on Thursday.
Jail records indicate the 25-year-old American was charged with dangerous driving and “excessive speed of 100 mph or more.”
An Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told BBC Sport that Richardson was allegedly traveling at 104 mph, tailgating the vehicle and crossing lanes of traffic to pass other drivers.
His bail was set at $500 (£363).
The American won silver in the 100 meters at the Paris Olympics and gold as part of the US 4×100 meter relay team.
The state of Florida introduced new penalties for speeding violations in July.
Under a new statute, known as the “Super Speeder” law, drivers can be fined up to $1,000 (£727), be ordered to appear in court if charged over the limit by more than 50 miles per hour, face jail time or have their license revoked for repeated violations.
In August, Richardson was arrested on allegations of domestic violence. She was released the next day and later said she would seek help.
Richardson missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana.
