SUPREME COURT BLOCKS TRUMP’S TARIFFS IN MAJOR TEST OF EXECUTIVE BRANCH POWERS

President Donald Trump was indeed full of disdain as he criticized the Supreme Court ruling against his signature tariffs. (Allison Robbert/AP)
They are giving in to the pressure of the “slime balls”!
And they are not only “radical” democrats, but also “RINO”!
I have rarely seen Donald Trump as angry as he was after the Supreme Court struck down his tariffs as illegal.
When I read his notes, I felt a barely controlled fury. When he kept going off script, he was filled with disdain.
TRUMP REVEALS HIS ‘NEW HERO’ SUPREME COURT JUDGE AFTER TARIFF RULING
As for the issue of Republicans in name only, what is surprising is that the 6-3 ruling was supported by two of their appointees, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Comey Barrett.
They joined the majority opinion of Chief Justice John Roberts, a consensus builder with whom the president has clashed in the past.
Gorsuch and Barrett did exactly what we say we want judges to do: consider the evidence and use their best judgment when interpreting the Constitution.
So why is Trump, who preferred to cite Brett Kavanaugh’s dissent, attacking two conservatives in such personal terms? Are they being disloyal to the legal process by saying he had no authority to unilaterally impose tariffs on countries around the world – or on him personally?
By the way, who are these nameless slime balls and how do they exert so much influence?

During the question-and-answer session, Trump was asked why he didn’t just work with Congress.
“I don’t have to,” he said.
But that was the whole point of the high court’s ruling: that Trump needed congressional approval before imposing an avalanche of tariffs.
Many conservatives who were not big supporters of tariffs openly expressed relief that the Supreme Court had taken this blunt weapon out of Trump’s hands.
The president had a long streak of victories with this court, which, among other things, expanded his immunity for virtually all actions during his term. I guess they weren’t lapdogs then. But Friday’s ruling made clear that even a conservative court has its limits.
Don’t take my word for it. The Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial page says Trump owes an apology “to the judges he smeared” and “to the institution itself.” “He certainly won’t offer any, but his rant in response to his tariff defeat in court was possibly the worst moment of his presidency.”
From the left, Maureen Dowd said in the New York Times that Trump had a “fit of rage” after the court, which had been “acting subservient to the White House megalomaniac, suddenly found courage.”
There are even reports that he cursed the courts that day.
Trump said he would use a different law to impose a 10 percent global tariff, which he raised to 15 percent over the weekend. That can only last five months. But more importantly, it is a modest tax compared to the draconian tariffs the president had been imposing or threatening to impose on various countries, allies or not, as part of his trade war, or simply because he had a testy call with a foreign leader.
TRUMP INCREASES THE GLOBAL TARIFF TO 15%
JD Vance accused the high court of “anarchy.” I’m sorry, mr. Vice President, it’s fine to overturn the ruling, but the court’s job is to interpret the law as it applies to the other two branches.
In an online attack directed at Gorsuch and Barrett, Trump wrote: “They voted against Republicans, and never against themselves, almost every time, no matter how good the arguments we have.” Barrett, however, voted with the majority to grant broad immunity to presidents, although she said the court’s decision went too far in that case.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick criticized “the misplaced gloating of Democrats, the misinformed media, and the very people who destroyed our industrial base; the court did not rule against President Trump’s tariffs. Six judges simply ruled that IEEPA authorities cannot be used to raise even one dollar of revenue.” (IEEPA is an emergency law of 1977).

Well… the court ruled against the tariffs. And the media’s judicial correspondents are not “misinformed”, they are specialists, in some cases lawyers. Furthermore, Lutnick’s own boss blames Republicans.
At the press conference, Trump responded to a somewhat silly question from a journalist: Are the justices still invited to Tuesday’s State of the Union?
“Barely,” Trump said. What is this, high school? Is it possible that they can’t sit at the cool kids table? The president said he didn’t care if they showed up, nor did anyone else.

Trump was right that this will be fought in court for two years, although it will likely be much longer than that. Are the companies that paid the $175 billion in tariffs now entitled to refunds? Who knows?

We are facing the probability of economic upheaval. It is, at the very least, a blow to Trump’s agenda. He doesn’t like being told he can’t do anything. For all his spin, Trump had warned that a Supreme Court loss would be devastating, and now we’ll find out what that looks like.
