News broke on Friday that Woods, 50, was involved in a rollover accident on Jupiter Island, Florida, shortly after 2 p.m. local time. According to a news conference held by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to the scene and found a pickup truck pulling a pressure washer trailer and a Land Rover driven by Woods that had rolled on its side.
“The driver of [the pickup truck] “He looked in the mirror and saw a dark-colored Land Rover overtaking him at a high rate of speed,” the sheriff said. John Budensiek he said at that time. “He tried to pull over to the side of the road, but this is a small two-lane road and there was no shoulder for this pressure washer to get off the road. As he tried to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him at the last minute, swerved to avoid a collision, but hit the back of the trailer.”
Woods was able to exit his Land Rover through the passenger side window without injury. However, authorities believed the driver of the Land Rover might be intoxicated and called DUI investigators to the scene.

“Mr. Woods exhibited signs of impairment. They performed several tests on him. He explained the injuries and surgeries he had. We took that into account,” police said at the news conference, referring to the procedure Woods underwent in October 2025 to repair a collapsed lumbar disc.
Photographs from the accident scene show the vehicle overturned and resting vertically on the side of the road, with visible physical damage.
The golfer did complete a breathalyzer test that resulted in “triple zeros.” However, Woods “refused” a urinalysis test. Woods was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a legal test. Us weekly Woods’ representative has been contacted for comment.
“We know we arrested a high-profile figure… but it doesn’t matter who you are. If you break the law, we will follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take,” Budensiek said of Woods’ arrest during the news conference.
Budensiek continued, “As far as him being in jail, we’ll make sure he’s safe. We won’t put him in the general population. He won’t be with other inmates who might hurt him or try to profit from what he did. He’ll pay the price, but he won’t pay the price of being punished in jail.”
