Socialism has long been considered a dirty word in American politics.
It smacks of a rejection of the capitalist system that had fueled the country’s rise to superpower status, and is too reminiscent of a dreamy wealth-sharing philosophy that runs counter to fierce corporate competition.
Looked at another way, the United States has a mixed system, with a government-run retirement program, government-run health care systems for the elderly and poor, and a host of programs to help farmers, small businesses, schools, veterans, the unemployed, etc. It’s not exactly a European-style welfare state, but perhaps a close cousin.
Right now, socialists are on a roll in Democratic politics.
NEW WAVE SOCIALISTS DEMOCRATS ARE WINNING THE PRIMARIES BUT THEY FACE A HARSH REALITY IN THE GENERAL ELECTIONS

Democrats have a socialist problem, and if it wasn’t clear before, it is now. Wing Zohran Mamdani is making great strides. (Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images)
Following the lead of their most visible supporter, Zohran Mamdani, they are pushing the party dramatically to the left, and with some deep and dark elements, especially in foreign policy.
This amounts to a gift-wrapped Fourth of July gift for Republicans, who are happy to spend the next few years running against these new wave socialists.
Perhaps that word no longer has sinister connotations, because President Trump says the three far-left candidates the New York mayor successfully pushed for Congress are “communists.” This sounds like a throwback to the 1950s witch hunt known as McCarthyism.
AOC ISSUES A WARNING TO HER FELLOW DEMOCRATIC INCUMBERS AFTER SOCIALISTS WIN BIG IN NEW YORK
But this goes beyond Washington and Seattle also electing socialists as mayors, and the obvious point is that most of the country is far to the right compared to the liberal cauldron that is New York City.
The new socialists may have enthusiasm on their side, but some of their views are downright dangerous. And they waged their war quite openly under the banner of the Democratic Socialists of America.
“The Democratic Party allows DSA candidates to run as Democrats, even though DSA is ideologically committed to a hostile takeover of the party,” says Jonah Goldberg, editor in chief of Dispatch, a conservative, anti-Trump news site. “The DSA is not a formal party; it calls itself ‘a political and activist organization, not a party.’ What it is is a fifth column within the Democratic Party. There is no sensible, informed Democrat who thinks these people are good for their party.”
What about the left? On the liberal show “The View,” Joy Behar announced that “I’m not afraid of the term. Social security is democratic socialism. Part of it is unemployment insurance. People who pick up your garbage, people who put out the fire in your house. All of this is social democracy.”
But it gets worse.

Among the most egregious of the new wave is Darializa Ávila Chevalier, who defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., in a left-wing primary. (Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images)
The New Socialists are fervently anti-Israel, which clearly deserves criticism for Bibi Netanyahu’s endless wars, but cements the view that the Democratic Party, even in New York, has turned its back on our former ally in the Middle East. That also reflects the change in the party.
In their own words, many of them hate both the United States and Israel.
Trump wasted no time in escalating his rhetoric: “Murder is a big problem for them. They’re animals… They’ll kill your people. And that’s what it’s about.”
All three Congressional candidates successfully pushed by Mamdani are openly pro-Palestinian. And the mayor, who has used the phrase “from the river to the sea” – meaning to wipe Israel off the map – takes the same stance, even in a city with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.
LEFT DEMOCRATS ARE BEING THROWN UNDER THE BUS AND SOCIALISTS ARE IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT
That seems to be your primary issue. There is nothing wrong with the Democratic rulers who were overthrown: they simply were not anti-Israel enough.
The most outrageous of the Mamdani-endorsed winners is Darializa Avila Chevalier, a community organizer and doctoral student who has supported defunding police and prisons, abolishing borders, eliminating ICE, confiscating private property, and nationalizing major industries.
The day after the savage October 7 attacks by Hamas that massacred 1,200 Israelis and took hostages, Chevalier attended a pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square. He was celebrating a horrible terrorist attack.
Chevalier also called Joe Biden a “rapist” and used the F-word against Kamala Harris. And this is not ancient history, since some of the messages were published in 2022.
As National Review noted, Chevalier is not alone.
Aber Kawas, the Democratic candidate for a seat in the New York State Senate, maintains that the United States deserved the attacks of 9/11: Seriously.
“The idea that we have to apologize for a terrorist attack that a couple of people committed, and then there are no apologies or reparations for genocides and slavery, etc., is something I find reprehensible,” Kawas says.
Chris Rabb, a Pennsylvania state representative and Democratic congressional candidate, blamed “Zionists” for the Bondi Beach massacre of Australian Jews. Adam Hamawy, a former Army doctor and now a Democratic congressional candidate from New Jersey, worked with “blind sheikh” Omar Abdel-Rahman, convicted of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He even responded on the sheikh’s behalf. He now says he has rejected Abdel-Rahman’s calls for violence.
Another of Mamdani’s winners, Claire Valdez, would not only abolish ICE but says that “detention and deportation have been used as a weapon, not only against immigrants, but against the entire working class.”
And in the West, a local host asked Melat Kiros, another socialist running in Colorado, about a firebombing attack on peaceful protesters supporting Jewish hostages held by Hamas, and he refused to condemn it.
“I don’t know what was in the perpetrator’s heart,” he said.
LEFT, LEFTIST AND LEFTIST: DEMOCRATS COULD BE DEFINED BY THE RADICAL MAYORS OF BIG CITIES
Yuck. That’s a low bar, and she didn’t clear it.
Do they sound like the kind of people who should be the face of the Democratic Party?
New York Rep. Tom Suozzi has rallied 12 other Democratic lawmakers to fight back. Under the slogan “Pledge to America,” these more moderate liberals declare themselves defenders of capitalism, police and patriotism.
“We don’t agree with MAGA. We don’t agree with socialism,” says Suozzi. “We believe the vast majority of America wants dominant, common-sense leadership, not political extremism.”

It’s a small group with little influence, but Suozzi’s gang is trying to send a message that the party is not held captive by crazy socialists.
“I’m a capitalist, not a socialist… I’m not ashamed of the United States,” Suozzi told Fox News Digital.

Socialists are all the rage right now, a fringe group that has somehow seized the national spotlight and that Republicans will spend years attacking.

Even if only a handful of far-left fanatics are elected, they will set the tone for an increasingly extremist party with views that most voters would find repulsive.
