Fatou, the oldest gorilla who lives in captivity worldwide, is preparing for his 68th birthday.
The Berlin Zoo on Friday presented Fatou a basket of fruits and vegetables before the official birthday, which falls on Sunday.
Fatou was born in 1957 and arrived at the zoo in what was then Western Berlin in 1959.
As you no longer have teeth, guardians make sure your food is soft and easy to eat.
The veterinarian André Schüle said: “Fatou gets the best possible attention here.”
She lives in her own enclosure, separated from the other five most bustling gorillas in the zoo, which are between 4 and 39 years old.
Schüle said that “she has the peace she deserves at her age.”
Gorillas can live for about 35-40 years in nature and more in captivity.
Fatou became the oldest resident of the Zoo last year, after the death of Inglamingo.
The bird believed he was under 75 years old and had lived in the zoo since 1955.
