The London Athletics Meet, one of 15 stops on this season’s Diamond League schedule, will take place on Saturday, July 18.
Kerr regained the indoor 3,000m title she won in Glasgow two years ago to complete her return to world success after her injury.
That came six months after the 28-year-old’s world 1,500m title defense in Tokyo was ruined when he tore a calf muscle during the final.
Fully healthy and without an outdoor world championship to aspire to in 2026, the Olympic 1,500m medalist has decided to chase Moroccan El Guerrouj’s mark in the mile, a distance in which he will seek Commonwealth gold at home two weeks later.
“This sport needs moments. I think setting my goals and being very clear about them is a big part of giving this record the respect it deserves,” Kerr said.
“Doing it in front of a British audience would make it extremely special. It’s going to be difficult, but I really believe I’m capable of overcoming these times.”
