Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a win at the all-women’s Athlos in New York on Friday night.
The Olympic champion, who won bronze at the World Championships last month, cruised to a stunning victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season ruined by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medalist Georgia Hunter Bell was again second in 1:58.33, while St. Vincent’s Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) was third.
“I’ve hardly raced this season, so it was probably less complicated for me to go out and want to give something,” said Hodgkinson, 23.
“The atmosphere out there is crazy, so it was really, really fun.”
The women’s-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to the traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing the traditional winners’ medals.
23-time tennis major winner Serena Williams, married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the crowns to the winners.
Last year’s winners took home $60,000 (£44,603), one of the largest prize pools in athletics.
The event also attracted some of the biggest names in the sport, as Kenya’s three-time Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon won the mile and crossed the finish line in four minutes and 17.78 seconds.
American Brittany Brown, bronze medalist in the 200 meters at last year’s Paris Olympics, won the 100 and 200 meters double.
