The Fantasy Soccer Draft season is here, and it is no longer a children’s club.
Of the 62.5 million people who play fantasy sports in the United States and Canada, 35% are women, according to the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Associations 2023 survey. The trend is only growing: women of 35 years or more who visit the Yahoo fantasy application, the best qualified application for fantasy football, 61% year approximately year or last month.
For not initiated, fantasy football allows players to write their own NFL real athlete teams. These teams compete in a league that runs next to the NFL season. When your quartback throws a touchdown or your corridor accumulates yards, your fantasy score also increases. Draft days usually happen at the end of August or early September, just before the new season begins.
A Yahoo Fantasy League, Tequila, Ta-tas and wings closed, of female, kept his draft on the weekend of the Yahoo Fantasy draft in Las Vegas from August 22 to 24. The League was initiated by Commissioner Samantha Metcalf, a lifelong Seahawks. “I avoided fantasy football for a while because I think I would consume my life. And it has done it, but it’s a lot of fun,” says Metcalf Fast company. “I could easily find 10 other friends who were enough in football that I imagine would have fun with that.”
Today, the Seattle Metcalf League includes 12 women tensions and female tension funds. “Everyone is busy and I feel that sometimes, special women are so busy directing a home and trying to do everything else, they they they they they they they they they he they he ones they they they hese them in Where am I going to squeeze this?“She says, however, noting that once the league was launched, the women were hooked.
They are part of a broader movement of women entering the game. A Yahoo Sports survey with DKC Analytics before last season found that of 22% of respondents who said they would play fantasy football for the first time, last half of women and almost a success hit Fanty4 its previous peak in 2015.
The “Taylor Swift effect” may have had something to do with that. One in 10 people surveyed said they had paid more attention to fantasy football since he filed a high profile romance with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City bosses. When it comes to gathering a team, 37% describes “writing of players who are dating my favorite celebrities or influencers” as a good or excellent draft strategy.
Even so, most women join for the same reasons that men do. “It’s the funny camaraderie among people,” says Metcalf. Then it is friendly competition and social aspect.
The investigation supports that. A study by the North America Society for sports management found that both men and women are motivated by enjoyment, commitment to game and social relationship.
Where women differ is that they are also motivated by the desire to compete in a sand dominated by men. Metcalf says: “My real husband asks me for advice on who should write and who should play with.”
