The composers of the biggest hits of the year were recognized in the Song of the Year category at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
“Wildflower” Billie Eilish received the award during the awards ceremony on Sunday, February 1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Accompanied on stage by her brother and collaborator. Finneas O’ConnellEilish, 24, co-writer of “Wildflower,” used her speech to express her support for those protesting ICE actions across the country.
“Honestly, I don’t feel like I should say anything, but no one is illegal on stolen land,” he said. “It’s very hard to know what to say and what to do right now. I feel very hopeful in this room and I think we need to keep fighting and speaking and protesting. Our voices really matter.”
Lady Gaga “Abracadabra,” Doechiis “Anxiety,” Pink and Bruno Mars “Suitable.,” bad bunnies “DtMF”, “Golden” from Huntr/x from KPop Demon Hunters, Kendrick Lamars “Luther” with SZA and Sabrina Carpinteros “Manchild” completed the list of nominees in the Song of the Year category.
“Anxiety” by Doechii, 27, received the most overall nominations of any song in the category, with five. In addition to Song of the Year, “Anxiety” competed for Record of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Music Video.
“Manchild” was close behind with four total nominations, including Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video. Carpenter, 26, was also up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Man’s best friend.
“Abracadabra,” “Apt.”, “Golden” and “Luther” were nominated for three Grammy Awards each. Gaga’s song received nominations for Record of the Year and Best Dance Pop Record, while the pop star, 39, earned additional nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for ViolenceBest Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Harlequin and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Disease.”
“Suitable.” de Rosé, 28, and Mars, 40, competed for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
“Golden” – which is sung by Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami – earned nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media, while the KPop Demon Hunters The soundtrack also competed for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
“Luther” by Lamar, 38, and SZA, 36, received nominations for Record of the Year and Best Melodic Rap Performance. Lamar was also nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for GNXBest Pop Duo/Group Performance for “30 for 30” with SZA, Best Rap Performance for “Chains and Whips” with Clipse and Pharrell Williams and “TV off” with Left-handed shooting and Best Rap Song for “TV Off.” Beyond her nominations with Lamar, SZA also competed for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Crybaby.”
Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” and Eilish’s “Wildflower” earned a total of two nominations each, and both earned Record of the Year nominations.
As for Bad Bunny, 31, he racked up six Grammy nominations in total, including Album of the Year, Best Urban Music Album and Best Album Cover for I should have taken more photos and Best Overall Musical Performance for “EoO.”
Before the 2026 awards show, many of the artists in the Song of the Year category were already Grammy winners, with 22 previous trophies going to Lamar, 16 to Mars, 14 to Gaga, nine to Eilish, five to SZA, three to Bad Bunny, two to Carpenter and one to Doechii.
