Spears was arrested on March 4 after the California Highway Patrol’s Ventura Communications Center received a report of a black BMW driving erratically at high speeds on Highway 101. After authorities said the singer was showing signs of impairment, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail. The pop star was released three hours later.
Chemical tests are pending and the incident is still under investigation at the time of this publication. Spears’ court date is currently scheduled for Monday, May 4.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep said.
