Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer they finally return to Chicago Police after their respective exits led to Upton and Halstead’s shocking split.
NBC announced on Wednesday, February 4, that Spiridakos, 37, and Soffer, 41, will reunite for all three parts. onechicago crossed special. According to the synopsis for the Wednesday, March 4, episode, Upton “returns to his old stomping grounds, but this time on the federal level as an FBI special agent.” She “joins her former allies at the Police Department after a drug task force case from her Detroit office brings her back to Chicago.”
Halstead, for his part, “accepted a job in the army in Bolivia, tracking drug cartel targets.” More recently, “he has been deeply undercover, leading him down the path to the very case Upton is investigating.”
The upcoming episode marks Soffer’s first return to the screen since his departure during season 10. The actor has since returned to direct three episodes of Chicago Police while Spiridakos left the show in season 11.
“I decided at the end of my sixth season (aka season 10 of the show),” he told Variety in May 2024. “Which was when I contacted [showrunner] gwen [Sigan] and to everyone at Wolf to let them know that I only wanted to stay one more year.”
Spiridakos said the decision was “very, very difficult,” adding, “I was just curious about what was available to me and I wanted to change it, and that was it.”
Halstead and Upton eventually divorced due to their actors’ respective departures. Despite the sad on-screen ending, Spiridakos posted a sweet message following Soffer’s departure.

Thank you for your kindness, your guidance, and your friendship,” Spiridakos wrote via Instagram in 2022. “You are the best on-screen husband a girl could ask for. I will miss being on set with you every day. I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for you next. #upsteadforever.”
Since then, Spiridakos and Soffer have sparked romance rumors, but have chosen to remain largely quiet about the status of their relationship. Spiridakos will be the next protagonist of the USA Network series. Ana Paloma.
Meanwhile, Soffer remained in Dick Wolf’s world after landing a role as Wes in FBI: International.
