Moments ago, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee released its third set of rankings for the year-end College Football Playoffs. Several questions arose heading into the night, including how far Alabama would fall after last weekend’s loss to Oklahoma, what the road was like for Texas after its loss to Georgia and which Group of 5 team would be in line for a spot if the playoffs began this weekend.
Alabama fell six spots to No. 10 after its loss to the Sooners, while the Longhorns fell to No. 17, putting their college playoff future in serious doubt. Texas needs to top the table, including a win over Texas A&M in its regular-season finale, and maybe get some help getting in.
Georgia moved up to the No. 4 spot after its win over Texas and loss to Alabama.
At the end of the Top 25, Tulane appeared in the rankings at No. 24, and the Green Wave are certainly in contention for the Group of 5 spot.

What is the current stretch of the CFP?
Given these rankings, this is the hypothetical College Football Playoff bracket:
Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M and Georgia would receive first-round waivers.
The four first round matches would be:
It’s worth noting that Miami is currently in the mix as the top-ranked ACC team, but their path to the ACC Championship Game, and that spot in the field, is quite difficult. With a pair of conference losses (to Louisville and SMU), the Hurricanes trail four teams (Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh and SMU) in the ACC standings. Either Miami gets a lot of help or the Hurricanes have to come in as an overall team.
Which could put their season-opening victory over Notre Dame on the line.
