Have a great week, Justin Rose.
The legendary Englishman was absolutely clinical this week at Torrey Pines en route to winning the Farmers Insurance Open and in the process setting the scoring record at 23 under par. He came out firing and never looked back. At one point during the broadcast, when Rose gained a 7-stroke lead, then would give it up before regaining it, Trevor Immelman of CBS noted that Rose appropriately had a touchdown lead, as the Super Bowl would be next week. Landing, in fact.
As the week in sports progressed, many looked to the world of professional tennis with the Australian Open underway. Carlos Alcaraz ended up defeating Novak Djokovic, but the latter’s incredible career is well documented. When Dkojovic reached the final, many wondered if he was the best athlete who had been so good for so long.
Without comparing the two in any way, on the topic of golf many people ruled out Tiger Woods as another contender in this debate, but how about Justin Rose continues to prove that he’s still got it with a dominant performance at Torrey Pines?
Last season, Rose won just once and it took until the FedEx St. Jude Championship for it to happen. He was obviously incredible a month later at Bethpage Black during the European Ryder Cup win. He is the third winner of this new PGA Tour season and joins Chris Gotterup and Scottie Scheffler on a growing list.
The PGA Tour has a huge couple of weeks ahead as it continues its tour of California. This week will bring the WM Phoenix Open, which is always awesome, but running parallel to the Super Bowl makes it even more fun. After that is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and then the Genesis Invitational.
Golf is back and so is Justin Rose, although he never really left.
