The Seattle Seahawks pulled off an impressive comeback against the Los Angeles Rams and capped it off midway through the fourth quarter with arguably the most successful two-point conversion in NFL history. With the NFC West lead and No. 1 spot up for grabs, he’s certainly on the short list!
Sam Darnold attempts a pass to Zach Charbonnet. It looked incomplete and the two-point attempt was a failure. However, upon further review, it was determined that this was a step backwards. That meant that when it broke it became a fumble. Charbonnet picked up the ball as it lay in the end zone and was later overturned by the referees as a successful conversion.
The Seahawks were trailing 30-14 and the Rams seemed to have all the momentum leading up to this conversion. Seattle had a 14-13 lead but then allowed a field goal, threw an interception, gave up consecutive touchdowns and threw another interception. However, on the next drive after Darnold’s second pick, the Seahawks forced a Rams punt and Rashid Shaheed ran 58 yards for a score. That changed the momentum on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter.
The match eventually went to overtime after neither team was able to secure victory in regulation time. The Rams opened the extra frame with a touchdown on an eight-play, 80-yard drive capped by Puka Nacua scoring on a 41-yard catch-and-run. The Seahawks responded with their own 65-yard drive and scored a touchdown with 3:13 left in overtime. They knew they probably wouldn’t get the ball back, so they went for two once again. Darnold found Eric Saubert for the game-winning conversion to stun the Rams.
The Seahawks and Rams are playing the best football in the NFC this season and at least one of them will be stuck on the road as a wild card team. If both teams win, the Seahawks will clinch the number one spot. But if the 49ers win their remaining three games, which would include a home win over the Seahawks, they will win the NFC West and likely the top spot.
