
The public hospital system in New York City is adopting a revolutionary addiction program in its medical center that serves the South Bronx after the same initiative helped to drastically stop the deaths due to overload in states Island, according to the post.
Health + Hospitals will launch the “Access Point” treatment program at Lincoln Hospital, thanks to a subsidy of $ 660,000 of the Robin Hood Foundation.
According to the access point model, patients receiving opioid treatment in the emergency department of Lincoln Hospital will be connected with a dedicated care team, including community health workers and pairs.
During up to a year after hospital discharge, the team will communicate with patients offered fifteen days to offer support and connection to addiction services, medical care, community resources, well -being and housing benefits as necessary.
The program will sacrifice patients a cell phone and service contact to help them stay connected to care.
The program at the Lincoln hospital hopes to comply with approximately 150 substance abusers with the highest risk of relapse.
A study of the access points program directed by the Northwell Health States Island performance suppliers, developed with MIT, found that there were only two overdose among 612 participants, compared to 14 deaths for 1,089 united addicts.
The analysis also showed a 36% reduction in non -fatal overdose and a 63% reduction in visits to the emergency room related to substance use disorder compared to opioid users who are not in the program.
