A spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews says several people are sick after a suspicious package was opened at Joint Base Andrews at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday.
Base medical staff responded immediately and treated several people who reported feeling sick, officials said. All patients were in stable condition and were later discharged.
“As a precautionary measure, the building and annex building were evacuated and a cordon was established around the area,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News. “First responders from Joint Base Andrews were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and normal operations resumed. An investigation is currently underway.”

Authorities have not revealed what the package contained or what may have caused the symptoms. The base was temporarily closed while emergency crews assessed the situation.

Several of the people were taken to Malcolm Grow Medical Center on base for evaluation.
Joint Base Andrews is home to Air Force One and other aircraft supporting the president, vice president and top American leaders.
