President Donald Trump said the tentative ceasefire with Iran is “over” after an intense overnight bombing campaign that followed Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.
“For me? I think it’s over,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with Secretary General Mark Rutte at the NATO Summit in Ankara on Wednesday. “I don’t want to deal with them anymore, they are scum.”
He said talks with Iran could continue, but they are a waste of time. “They are liars, cheats. They are sick people.”
US regains key concession to Iran after new attacks on commercial ships in Strait of Hormuz
The comments may signal the end of weeks of talks that followed the two sides signing a memorandum of understanding, in which they agreed to allow traffic to resume in the Strait of Hormuz.
But Iran attacked at least three commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and Tuesday, and the U.S. military responded with strikes on more than 80 targets in Iran.
