Felix, the most decorated American Olympian in track and field, won her only solo gold in the 200 meters in London in 2012, but also topped the 4x400m relay podium at every Games between 2008 and the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games.
He also won 4x100m relay titles in 2012 and 2016, and took 200m silver in 2004 and 2008, along with 400m silver and bronze in Rio and Tokyo, respectively.
The Los Angeles native also won a record 20 medals at the World Championships, the most by any woman or man, including 14 titles.
Félix, who also has a daughter born in 2018, attended the Paris 2024 Olympics as a spectator and said she experienced “mixed emotions.”
“There were moments where I thought, ‘Oh, this is great. It’s so exciting to be in the stands and on the other side,'” Felix told Time magazine., external.
“And then there were times when I thought, ‘You know, I miss this feeling.'”
Félix, a member of the athletes’ commission of the organizing committee of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, said he is realistic about his return.
“I know, at 40 I’m not at my best. I have no illusions about it,” he added. “I’m very clear about what it is and what I want to see. And I hope it looks that way.
“When I was competing, you would hear that roar from the host country’s athletes at the Olympics. I would love to experience that.
“I’d probably be mad at myself if I just didn’t try. Either way, I’ll still be there with my kids, hanging out and cheering everyone on.”
