Regional action in the 2026 NCAA baseball tournament is coming to a close, and when Sunday’s action comes to a close, we could have most of the 16 spots in the Super Regionals locked up.
At least one regional will be extended until Monday, due to weather. Delays and postponements in the Tallahassee regional have pushed Game 6 of that group back to Monday, and depending on how that game plays out, a doubleheader may be necessary to determine which team advances out of that group.
Whether we see more games on Monday depends on what happens on Sunday night in the various regional finals. Remember, regionals are a double elimination format.
Here we will keep track of each team that advances to the Super Regionals.
Update (Monday morning): After Sunday, 10 of the 16 spots in the Super Regionals have been reserved. That leaves six in play during today’s game.
UNC became the first team to clinch a spot in the Super Regionals, thanks to a 9-3 victory over East Carolina at Boshamer Stadium, advancing in front of its hometown fans.
The Tar Heels were the fifth overall seed in the NCAA baseball tournament and advanced through the Chapel Hill regional for their first regional sweep since 2019. UNC scored eight runs in the first three innings against the Pirates, carrying the baes in each of those innings.
UNC won its first game on Friday 8-0 against VCU and then won a pair of games against East Carolina to advance to the Super Regionals. The Tar Heels will host the winner of the College Station regional, either Texas A&M or Southern California, in the best-of-three Super Regionals beginning Friday, June 5.
The Bulldogs booked their own spot in the Super Regionals, with a 6-1 win over Liberty.
However, it came at a high price.
Third baseman Tre Phelps hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the game against the Flames. But Phelps, and then coach Wes Johnson, were ejected from the contest after referees ruled that Phelps taunted the Liberty dugout after the home run.
You can see everything developed here:
Phelps will be in line to miss Game 1 of next weekend’s Super Regional series. The Bulldogs will host either Mississippi State in that series.
Georgia began the NCAA tournament as the third overall seed.
Texas became the third team to book a spot in the Super Regionals, with a 6-4 victory over UC Santa Barbara.
But it was a tense final inning at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, after what had been two comfortable games for the Longhorns.
Texas won its first two games of the Austin regional by a combined score of 35-2, with wins over Holy Cross and Tarleton State. But Sunday night’s game against UC Santa Barbara was much closer than those two matchups. The Gauchos loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth against the Longhorns, thanks to a pair of singles and a hit. That forced Texas to bring in Luke Harrison, who started Friday against Holy Cross and went four innings, to try to get the final out. Harrison got outfielder Rowan Kelly to fly and the Longhorns were able to celebrate a berth in the Super Regional.
Texas entered the NCAA tournament as the sixth overall seed and will host a Super Regional next weekend. The long horns
They will face Oregon in that Super Regional.
When the brackets were announced on Selection Monday, UCLA was placed in the Los Angeles regional as the first overall seed in the field.
Someone forgot to tell Cal Poly.
The Bruins lost their opener to Saint Mary’s and fell to the elimination bracket, while Cal Poly moved into the winner’s bracket thanks to wins over Virginia Tech and Saint Mary’s. And after Saint Mary’s sent UCLA home in extra innings on Sunday, the Mustangs booked their spot in the Super Regional with a win over Saint Mary’s on Sunday night.
Cal Poly awaits the winner of Monday’s game between Kentucky and West Virginia.
Update: West Virginia’s win on Monday means Cal Poly gets the Mountaineers.
The Trojans were seeded No. 4 in the Hattiesburg regional, but Little Rock made it to the Super Regional with three straight wins. The Trojans beat Southern Miss, the region’s No. 1 seed, 7-4 in their first game, before booking their spot on the Supers with back-to-back wins over Jacksonville State.
Shortstop Jerdy Lopez went 3-for-5 in the regional final, with a pair of RBIs, as Little Rock beat Jacksonville State 6-3 to advance. The Trojans will face the winner of Monday’s game between Florida and Troy in the Super Regional.
Update: With Troy’s 10-2 win over Florida, the Trojans now await Little Rock. Troy will likely be the host team for that Super Regional.
While several No. 1 seeds struggled in their regional, or were eliminated outright, the Bulldogs quietly clawed their way to the Super Regional by putting ten or more runs on the board in each of their three home games. Mississippi State beat Lipscomb 10-1 in its opener and then defeated Cincinnati 10-5 on Saturday.
Then on Sunday, the Bulldogs put 19 runs on the board against Louisiana, clinching a spot in the Super Regionals with a 19-5 victory.
For those keeping score, that’s a cumulative score of 39-11 in the region.
The Bulldogs now face a tougher road as they head to Athens to take on Georgia in the Super Regional.
When the pairings were announced on Selection Monday, the Eugene regional seemed to have been designed for content. Former Pac-12 rivals Oregon, Washington State and Oregon State were included in the group, along with Yale, perhaps giving No. 1 seed Oregon a difficult path out of the regional.
However, the Ducks won all three of their home games, clinching a spot in the Super Regional with Sunday night’s 4-1 victory over Oregon State. Oregon beat each team in its regional, starting with a 14-2 win over Yale and then eliminating Washington State 4-0 on Saturday.
The Ducks will now travel to Texas to face the Longhorns in the Super Regional.
The Crimson Tide are moving forward.
Alabama booked a spot in the Super Regional on Sunday night, defeating Oklahoma State by a final score of 9-7. After throttling Alabama State 21-3 in its opener, Alabama won a pair of two-run games to advance, first defeating USC Upstate 7-5 and then defeating the Cowboys on Sunday night.
They will be the home of the Super Regionals, while they await the winner of the Tallahassee regional, either Florida State or St. John’s.
Update: With St. John’s victory on Monday, the Crimson Tide will welcome the Red Storm to Tuscaloosa next weekend.
Despite what many expected, the Jayhawks advance to the Super Regionals for the first time in program history.
Kansas entered the regionals as the No. 1 seed in its group, but many experts picked No. 2 seed Arkansas to come out of Lawrence. However, the Jayhawks won all three home games, beating Northeastern in their opener and then beating the Razorbacks twice, proving all the doubters wrong.
It’s me, I’m the one who doubts.
Kansas will welcome Oklahoma to Lawrence for the Super Regionals, as the Sooners won in extra innings over Georgia Tech.
Note: An earlier version of this story stated that Kansas would play Georgia Tech. This is what happens when you hit publish before your morning caffeine hits.
Ole Miss is also moving forward, coming off a late-10th win against Arizona State on Sunday night. Dom Decker launched a deep fly ball to left field, deep enough to plate pinch-runner Cannon Goldin, who was coming up from third base.
It was the second time Ole Miss beat Arizona State in extra innings in the regional. Ole Miss opened its regional with a 7-6 victory over Arizona State, scoring in the bottom of the 14th inning to secure the victory at 1:16 a.m. local time.
Ole Miss will face the winner of Monday’s game between Milwaukee and Auburn in the Super Regionals.
Sometimes a single hit really changes a game.
That’s exactly what happened in Tallahassee this afternoon.
Florida State, with its back against the wall, built an early 2-0 lead over St. John’s. But Adam Agresti came to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, and with that swing of the bat, the Red Storm had a 4-2 lead:
St. John’s closed it out – with bonus points for relief pitcher Jack Nestler, who literally “puked up and recovered” during the sixth and seventh innings while throwing up on the mound and staying in the game – but even that was with some tension. Cal Fisher hit his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth to bring Florida State within one run, and the Seminoles got the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs.
That’s when relief pitcher Victor Frederick got standout hitter Brody DeLamielleure to go for strike three to end the threat and the game.
Now the Red Storm are in their first Super Regional since 2012, after winning all three of their games in Tallahassee, where they will visit seventh overall seed Alabama.
Oklahoma moves on to the Super Regionals, with a definitive victory over Georgia Tech.
The Sooners forced a decisive Game 7 against Georgia Tech on Sunday, as Oklahoma beat the Yellow Jackets 15-8. Oklahoma took an early lead Monday over the Yellow Jackets, but Georgia Tech rallied to take a 7-3 lead into the late innings.
But the Sooners didn’t give up, destroying inning after inning. And when Georgia Tech brought in Tate McKee, its Friday starter, to close out the game in the ninth, the Sooners didn’t fall. Oklahoma forced extra innings, pushing the writing run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
Then in the bottom of the tenth, it was all Dayton Tockey:
And now, the Sooners head to Lawrence to take on Kansas.
Troy earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 32-29 record, thanks in large part to the tough schedule they played during the season. The Trojans took on the eighth toughest schedule in the nation, including wins over tournament teams such as Georgia (in Athens), Alabama, a season sweep of Alabama State, a series win against Texas State and a series win against Louisiana.
We included Troy as one of our sleepers to watch before the tournament, and they are no longer a sleeper. Monday’s 10-2 win over Florida moved the Trojans into the Super Regionals, where they will likely host Little Rock.
Designated hitter Jade Boroff continued his hot streak, hitting his second home run in as many days against the Gators. Boroff drove in nine runs in the final two days against Florida.
This also guarantees that one of Little Rock or Troy, who are in the Super Regionals for the first time in program history, will head to Omaha.
Absolute scenes in Morgantown on Monday night as West Virginia pulls away in the bottom of the 10th to book a spot in the Super Regionals. Armani Guzmán singled to center to bring home the winning run, and the celebration began:
The victory ended two incredible nights of baseball, as the epic baseball rivalry between West Virginia and Kentucky wrote its final two chapters. West Virginia’s dramatic win on Sunday set the stage for Monday’s winner-take-all contest, and now the Mountaineers will host Cal Poly next week, with a spot in Omaha on the line.
